It starts with a special printer
We print every topper here in Wellington using a dedicated edible-ink printer. It works much like a home inkjet, except the cartridges are filled with vibrant, food-safe edible ink and the paper is a thin sheet of icing. Nothing in the process touches anything that is not food grade, and the printer is never used for anything else.
The icing sheet
The topper itself is a thin, flexible sheet of icing with a backing that peels away. Once it is applied to a cake, it softens and blends into the frosting beneath so it looks and cuts like part of the cake. No card, no plastic, no rice paper crunch.
