Flat lay of blank icing sheets and edible ink bottles on a clean kitchen bench

Are Edible Cake Toppers Actually Edible? Ingredients and Allergens

It is the question every first-timer asks at the party: do you peel that picture off before you cut the cake? You do not. Here is exactly what an edible topper is made of.

What is in the sheet

Our toppers are printed on premium icing sheets: a thin layer of sugar, starches and food-safe stabilisers that softens into the frosting after application. It tastes lightly sweet, like the icing it sits on, and slices cleanly with the cake.

What is in the ink

The colour comes from certified food-grade edible inks, printed on equipment used for nothing else. Our sheets and inks are free from gluten, nuts, dairy and eggs.

Common questions

  • Vegetarian? Yes.
  • Does it change the cake's taste? No - it is a very thin layer and takes on the flavour of the icing.
  • How long does it keep? Sealed and flat, several weeks. We print to order so yours arrives fresh.
  • Fridge or pantry? Pantry until applied. Humidity is the enemy of a crisp print.

Full ingredient details are listed on every product page in our topper collection, and if a guest has a specific allergy, message us before ordering and we will confirm exactly what is in the batch.
